Is there purpose to feeling LOST?

We all feel lost sometimes, but we don’t always embrace it.

The brain is hardwired to avoid the unknown – because it needs to feel safe and secure, and that’s why not knowing doesn’t feel good, but if we are willing to lean into the discomfort with a little more curiosity, we can learn a lot during times of uncertainty … however, it will feel uncomfortable.

I’m wrapping up a 12 week online writing course, and I began writing a story this week. After writing my life story to make sense of some challenging experiences, I’m now narrowing the focus with more intention, to write about an experience from my life that reflects a significant inner shift.

The story begins in 2022 when I’ve hit another rocky bottom, and I’m taking the reader on a journey, concluding the story one year later.

Many things happen during that time, and I notice how narrating the past from my present perspective is a little different – because I’ve emotionally detached from the experience. Some things have become clearer, while other things have faded into the distance – because temporary stressors, that were once highly charged with energy are no longer fuelled with emotion, so I’m able to see overarching patterns, and my life lessons with more clarity.

Essentially, I’ve shifted focus from the subjective lens of my emotions, to the objective truth, and it’s been another challenging experience to learn and grow from. Ironically, during my university studies, I did the opposite. Shifting from the objective truth of psychological theory, to the subjective lived experience of social theory, to bridge the gap between what we know and how we feel.

Becoming conscious of those internal shifts have been a struggle πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

“This transition often mirrors the philosophical concept of phenomenology, which studies the structures of consciousness as experienced from first-person point of view. In psychology, it’s moving from third-person observation to acknowledging how emotions actively shape our internal reality.”

Spiritual influencer, Teal Swan talks about how healing occurs in layers, and from personal experience, I agree, but the journey can often feel like we’re not actually learning anything. Sometimes it can feel like we need to do more healing because we find ourselves confronting the same lesson, but that’s not necessarily true – because there are points in our time-line when repeating a familiar pattern is right on purpose – because we are experiencing it from another perspective to understand another element.

The deeper we go, the more elements to a pattern we will experience.

Trigger β‹™ Behaviour β‹™ Consequence

For me, its about intimate relationship, and how I’ve abandoned and betrayed my SELF in the name of love, but each experience has been another opportunity for more awareness, and it’s been constantly changing my state of mind, which then influences how I communicate, and relate with another.

Every time a significant relationship has ended, it’s taken time to find my way, and how lost I’ve felt has depended upon the connection I’ve shared, the experiences I’ve had, and the stories I’ve told myself, but I eventually find my way back to my SELF – because I’ve been consciously exploring my inner world for years, to understand what healing means for me …

Reflection β‹™ Reconnection β‹™ Rebalance β‹™ Realignment

That’s why I know that feeling lost is an essential part of our healing process.

It’s a RESET button, to reflect, and an intentional PAUSE before a rebirth.

When we acknowledge that something no longer fits or serves our highest good, we begin to break down of old meaning, so a more authentic SELF can emerge, and that’s how we come back into alignment.

As the NEW MOON in Cancer approaches (my rising sign), it’s a planetary emotional reset, and the energy feels gentle and more nurturing. Cancer is ruled by the Moon, and it’s asking us about our emotional safety, belonging, and home, but I’ll share more about that in the next blog.

If you feel lost right now, then trust the process πŸŒ€
